Building Bridges: Can We Love & Relate in a Polarized World?

Book Cover Design

I designed the book cover of Michael Sullivan's book "Building Bridges: Can We Love & Relate in a Polarized World?".

The book is about the author's life and how he witnesses life having lived in different countries including the US, Thailand, and Turkey with facing conflicting opinions. He dissects his experiences with those of the people around him and gives his own point of view on matters.

"Sabrina provided me with an amazing book cover. She has successfully catapulted my book into the hands of people that are willing to pay money for it. For that, I'm grateful. She was easy to work with and payed attention to the details necessary to send the right message to my audience. I highly recommend her to others looking to platform on digital media, expand their horizons as an author or entrepreneur, or better encapsulate your brand to grow your established business."

Challenge

Creating a book cover that encompasses the name of the title of the book as well as the emotions and hints of what the book is about while making it attractive for a potential reader to pick it up.

Results

After 3 different concepts and ideas as his book's concept changed from one idea to the next, Sullivan was able to land on the final idea for the book and what he wanted the book to be about as well as what the cover should showcase. Combining our ideas together we created a book cover that speaks about love and relations in opposing words with the hands as heart shape, different skin tones, colors, and the rip of the page.

Process

Understood the Book and Target Audience: Gained a thorough understanding of the book's concept. Identified key elements that can be visually represented on the cover. Determined the primary audience for the book. Considered their age, interests, and the visual elements that resonate with them.

Research and Conceptualization: Studied other successful book covers in the same genre to understand design trends and identify unique opportunities for the cover. Brainstormed and sketched out different design concepts. Explored various layouts, color schemes, and imagery that align with the book's genre and target audience.

Created Initial Designs: Translated my conceptual sketches into digital designs. Experimented with different fonts, colors, and images to create a few initial design concepts.

Gather Feedback and Refinement: Shared the initial designs with the author and potential readers. Collected feedback on the overall impression, readability, and alignment with the book's themes. Based on feedback, made necessary adjustments to refine the cover design. Then, tweaked visual elements, adjusting typography, or exploring alternative color schemes.

Finalize and Prepare for Publication: Created high-resolution versions of the final design suitable for both print and digital formats. Ensured that the fonts are legible and visually appealing. Fine-tuned the color palette to ensure consistency and print quality. Saved the final design in the appropriate file formats for both print and digital use (e.g., PDF for print, JPEG for online retailers). Sent to client as final version!

Conclusion

The book cover is ready to be out in the world for readers to have their curiosity sparked upon looking at the cover at first sight.
